Busy Weekend

Get ready for a busy - and creative  - weekend here at The Collective show.

We're hosting an opening reception on Saturday, from 1pm to 4pm.  You'll get a chance to meet the artists and artisans and ask them about their work.

To keep us in the festive mood, our friends at the Savannah Naturals Beverage Co. will be serving up their latest creation (guava and citrus mixed with their new spice infusion).

We'll also be launching our chair project in support of the local charity, Sketch, which helps impoverished youth through the arts.  During the show our various exhibitors will be adding their designs to a chair we rescued. The transformed chair could be yours, with a simple donation of two dollars to Sketch.

If you are tired of generic cards then you need to come by on Sunday. That's the day we will be hosting the letterpress show featuring handmade cards, original prints and paper designs, by some of the city's most creative printmakers. Some even make their own ink.

Letterpress is having a revival. Graphic designers, who are tied to the computer all day, are rediscovering the world of handmade design, says Akemi Nishidera of Kozo Studio.  She's strictly old school, working with moveable type and the old wooden letters.

We'll have the smaller vintages presses on display and the printmakers will be there to demonstrate how they create their work.

You'll also be able to collect the old letters and plates - and maybe start your own revival.
